THIN PLACES

Thin places in Celtic folklore are physical places on earth which have such a spiritual atmosphere that you feel it would be so easy to connect there with the divine. It’s as though - in these thin places - there is no barrier between earth and heaven.

I created this series of images during a road trip I made in the summer of 2023 along part of the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast of Ireland - from Dingle in Co Kerry to Achill Island in Co Mayo. It is a beautiful, wild, liminal landscape, and I experienced several thin places within the landscapes and seascapes on my journey. In this series of images, I am deliberately trying to capture the spirit of these thin places, rather than just their beauty, or physical geography.

I am a photographer based on Bankside in London. In my work, I play with both analogue process - such as cyanotype - and digital photography, using intentional camera movement and multiple exposure to explore themes of memory, identity, aging and belonging.
